IELTS Writing: Từ và cụm từ diễn tả sắc thái tích cực và tiêu cực

Trong bài thi IELTS Writing task 2, bạn sẽ phải làm các dạng như argumentative, discussion hay dạng causes – solutions. Các dạng bài này thì người viết cũng chỉ hướng tới 2 sắc thái ý nghĩa, hoặc tích cực hoặc tiêu cực. Hnay mình giới thiệu với các bạn một số từ vựng diễn tả hai sắc thái trên để giúp làm tốt bài viết IELTS nhé:

Positive meaning

Make

Make = cement, cultivate, better, enhance, strengthen relation

Organizing international sports events can cement the relationship between countries

Make = to be conductive to something/V-ing (the subject is not people)

Qualifications gained abroad are conductive to get better job opportunity

Make = provide someone the chance or opportunity to do something , give someone favorable condition to do something (làm cái gì tốt hơn, cải thiện cái gì).

Learning English will provide students the chance to get a better job
Learning English can give students favorable condition to access international education systems.

Help

Equip somebody with something (trang bị cho ai cái gì đó)

By learning English, students can equip themselves with international knowledge

Bestow something on somebody (mang lại cho ai cái gì đó)

Learning English can bestow international knowledge on students

Provide somebody easier access to do something (mang lại sự tiếp cận với cái gì)

 Learning English provides students easier access to international knowledge

Enable somebody to something (tạo điều kiện cho ai làm cái gì đó)

Learning English enables students to get a better job

Get

Accumulate (knowledge, skill, experience, capital) (tích lũy cái gì)

When children study until the age of eighteen, they can accumulate enough knowledge and skill for their future jobs

Gain, achieve, obtain (money, experience, skill, knowledge, score) (đạt được cái gì)
Enhance (experience, skills, knowledge)
Nurture, sharpen, foster, cultivate (experience, skills, knowledge, relation) Nuôi dưỡng phát triển cái gì

Reading book can nurture children’s imagination.

Negative meaning

Cause, lead to, result in, trigger, pose something  (gây ra, dẫn tới cái gì)

Investing too much money in defense can lead to government’s deficit of budget.

Be responsible for something, be conducive to something

Drinking wine while driving is conducive to unwanted accidents.

Be a culprit of (là thủ phạm của) / be contributor to (là nhân tố dẫn tới)/ be the cause of (là nguyên nhân của)/ be the reason for (là lý do cho)/ be a catalyst for something/doing something (là chất xúc tác gây ra)

The lack of parental care is the reason for their children’s poorer academic performance.
Abusing Internet is the culprit of social evil.

Put something at risk/ in danger/ in jeopardy (đặt cái gì trong tình trạng nguy hiểm).

Watching television for a long time can put children’s health in danger
The flood of Chinese food can put our health in jeopardy.

Endanger/ jeopardize/ risk/ worse/ threaten/ intimidate something

 Falling in love at the early age will endanger children’s future.

Computer’s appearance, beside its advantages, has some negative effects on users.  First, sitting in front of computer screen for a long time possibly results in eye-sight problems among kids. Medical studies have demonstrated that LC screens of computer emit ultraviolet that is a contributor to eye – related diseases such as cataracts and blurred vision. Second, it is also believed that using computer can make children become passive in their thinking. For example, in the past when computer was a luxurious item, students did not fall into plagiarism like they are today. Instead of spending time thinking to find out answer to their subjects, they are used to searching the Internet and making copy. Only after equipping them with computers is their academic performance put in danger.
